August A. Fischer, Advisory Board Member
August is a seasoned corporate executive with extensive international experience in the publishing, media and chemicals industries, in the United States and Europe.
Most recently, August was Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Axel Springer Verlag AG, one of the three largest print publishing companies in the world and the largest in Europe.
Prior to joining Axel Springer, he was active in corporate consulting and was appointed member of the supervisory board of Ringier AG, Zurich, Switzerland.
He spent six years at News International / News Corporation. In 1989, he joined News International as General Manager of Development and became Managing Director in January 1990. In 1991, while retaining his responsibilities at News International, he was appointed to the Board and became Chief Operating Officer of the News Corporation. In addition, in November 1993, he became Chief Executive of News International plc, the UK subsidiary of News Corporation, and was responsible for all the activities of the company in the UK and Europe. Additionally, he was also on the board of Star TV, BSkyB and News America Publishing and also became the Chairman of NDC.
Previously, August worked for Napp Systems Inc., initially as the Managing Director of their European subsidiary, later in San Diego, California, as Executive Vice President and later as President and Chief Operating Officer of the company.
August began his career at EI DuPont de Nemours & Co, where he held a variety of key management and executive positions. During his sixteen years tenure with DuPont, he worked and lived in Geneva, Frankfurt, London, Paris, Chicago/Illinois and Wilmington/Delaware.
